We've lived in this house for almost 4 years now, but I've never really taken much interest in trying to do “something” with the back yard. It's on a hill and covered in various types of trash trees, brush, and all sorts of vines and ground vegetation. It's just a mess. For reasons still unknown to me, last night after I got home from work, I fired up the chainsaw and lawnmower and started the process of reclaiming the wilderness. I got a good nights rest and hit it hard again this morning.
I’m fairly pleased with my progress, even though this project came to a halt when my lawnmower quit running. The mower was worn out and ready to lay down anyway, but I wish it would had held out until I finished the last 20 by 20 feet of area I had predetermined was going to be my stopping point for the day. I guess I should just be happy I got what I got, but then I wouldn't have anything to complain about.
God's little creatures have already started searching out the “new” ground to find whatever goodies that are accessible to them now. The squirrels are scrounging about, birds are hunting worms, grubs, and insects, there was a 3 foot King Snake that I suppose was hunting for the birds, and a couple of turtles have been plowing trails through the freshly mulched leaves.
I'll definitely be spending more time on the back deck now that I can enjoy the view.
